What Readers Think of the New Printed Copies of Tough

(If you would like to purchase a printed copy of one or both of the first two chapters of Tough, click here.)

Exciting news! I’ve started using the industry leading print-on-demand service ComiXpress so you can now order your own actual, physical copies of the first two chapters of Tough! And let me tell you, those guys do an amazing job. The comics are super-sized at 8 x 10.5 inches and printed on really nice glossy paper stock. The colors are vibrant, the text is crisp and it’s awesome to actually be able to hold the comic in your hands the way it was meant to be read!

The truth is, I’ve been planning this for a long time. So to celebrate, in August I decided to send out a free printed copy of the first chapter to anyone who had commented about their experience reading Tough here on this blog or on our Facebook page — in other words, long-time fans who responded right away. This wasn’t a promotion or a way to get more comments — it was just a special thank you to folks who had taken the time to sign up, show their support and share their thoughts in writing here. As I’ve said before, making these comics is a lot of hard work and your kind words and encouragement are what make it all worth it. Some days, it’s the only thing that keeps us going. I just wanted some way to show my sincere gratitude. 🙂

Anyway, many folks who received these comics wrote back with their reactions — and some even included pictures of themselves holding the comic! So, with their permission, I decided to post those reactions and pics up here. I have to tell you, it’s really great to see my readers’ smiling faces holding one of my comics. Honestly, it puts a big smile on my own face!

(And who knows? Maybe this will turn into a Yaoi 911 tradition. So hey, if you like one of our printed comics, take a picture of yourself holding it [G-rated, please!], tell me what you thought and I’ll add you to this blog post! 😀 )

(Oh, and if you want to buy your own hard copy, here are the details: After you place your order on their site, ComiXpress sends the comics to you in a standard, plain white US Postal Service Priority Mail envelope with just their return address on it [so there’s no mention of yaoi or what’s inside if you’re concerned about that.] And they ship all around the world, so there’s no problem with international orders. Now, just a heads-up, though: because each comic is printed to order, it can take them a little while for them to ship sometimes up to a month (yikes!)  but it’s totally worth it. You can get your own copy of “Tough” or “No Kissing” from ComiXpress for just $4.99.)

Anyway, here are the reactions!

When I received this in the mail, it really made my day. (I jumped around and screamed and people were looking me at strangely) The colors are so vivid, It’s a much better read when it’s in your hand and you can turn the pages yourself! What I really like about this yaoi comic are the characters and how realistic it is from other yaoi comics I’ve read before! It’s a beautifull comic, thank you.

I received my copy!!! I loved the print copy of Tough, the quality of paper impressed me and the colors are very beautiful. I’m very happy.

  1. So much fun! I'm just sorry that I wasn't able to participate (thanks for the extension, Alex, but I was putting in extra time at work for half of last week and was out of town for the second half).

I love my copy, though, and can't wait to get my hands on Chapter 2.

Hey, have you made that announcement at Prism Comics? I'm wondering if you're allowed to post promo material over there. I know that I found out about Yaoi 911 through one of their "from the web" features a while ago. 🙂

  2. @Hayden Thorne

While I would have loved to see your smiling face, I think your quote up there is pretty awesome all by itself, so you have nothing to apologize for. I really appreciate you letting me know what you thought of the printed book!

I actually haven’t made the announcement specifically at Prism Comics yet, although that’s a very good idea. I’ll get on that right now. 🙂 (The whole self-promotion thing can be a little… hard for me. But it’s very important and I owe it to these stories to get the word out. Thank you for reminding me!)

I really hope you enjoy your printed copy of “No Kissing”! Please let me know what you think of it when you get it. Take care!

  3. ~twitches~ Must purchase….~goes into zombie like state~ 😀

A definite MUST HAVE!~ A bed time story! A rainy day goldmind! A boredum buster! A life completer! A emotional satifiser! Need i say more?

Also, I apologize for all the comment trails i’m leaving all of a sudden whilst exploring the site more thoroughly XD

  4. I wondered if you intend to sell all of the chapters together as a full comic book when the Tough series is finished? I’m not keen on owning comic books in chapters, however, I would absolutely, positively, no doubt what-so-ever buy a copy of the full book. Especially if it’s a hardback. I love all of the comics released so far and can’t wait for more.

    1. That is definitely my intention. 🙂 Actually, my intention is to package the first five chapters into one volume and the last five in a second volume.

But as you can see, that’s a bit of a ways off—Chapter 3 won’t be ready until the Fall. The printed book for Artifice will most likely come out long before the first collected volume of Tough is released.

Glad you’re liking the comics, though!

  5. I just found your website last night. Purely by chance. And I am soooo happy I did. I have never seen a kissing scene that I have wanted to read over and over. “No Kissing” is cute, erotic, and sexy. But the way you and your team showed a simple back rub and kissing… Good Lord. Let’s just say it got a little hot in the room. Very well done! I can’t wait for the next chapter.

I read Artifice first. And I can’t wait for the story to progress!! Deacon is my type. Tall, dark hair, and muscles. And a sense of humor to go with the sexiness. My ideal man right there!

Have I mentioned how much I love you guys?!? LOL

    1. Yay! Glad you liked the kissing scene! It was a lot of fun to write—and get art for!

And I’m also glad to hear you like Deacon’s sense of humor. It’s actually not far off from mine… 😉

Thank you so much for your kind words! They’ve put a big smile on my face! 😀
