Hey TheColorOf Peace
I sent the link to your email, but I got this error:
554 delivery error: dd This user doesn't have a yahoo.com account
Is there an alternative email you'd like to use? You can either register here at this page or send it to me by private message from the Creators page.
Thanks,
Alex
i didnt get the link either, would you mind sending me it?
boi3324,
Sure! I see your email on the list and I've sent you the link directly.
Luppe14,
Hmm.. You know I'm beginning to wonder if there's an issue with Yahoo Mail and my web hosts mailing list function. I'll send in a trouble ticket to them, but if you notice that the email wound up in your spam folder or something, please let me know.
Anyway, I see your email on the list and I've resent the link to your email address directly. Hope you like it!
Alex
yea same here…….I joined about a week ago and I have yet to recieve an e-mail with comics in it or a link
Hello, I just recently signed up and I don't have any comics. I don't understand is it just sent to my email or do I just click free comics and begin browsing?
Hello Ughitsandy,
When you sign up to the list on this page, you will receive an email with a link for you to click on that confirms that you really wanted to sign up for the list (and the free comic). When you click on that link, another email will be sent to you — a Confirmation Email — that confirms that you've joined the list and within THAT email you will find a link to click to download the free comic.
I know it's a hassle to have multiple steps, but my web host provider wants to make sure no one gets spammed and that's a good thing, right?
Let me know if you have any other questions,
Alex
Hi
i think i have the same problem as Emutheaustralianbird
yaoi-fan,
Hmmm — I'm sorry to hear that.
The PDF of the comic is contained within a ZIP file and again, I would have the same questions: Did you download the ZIP file? Were you able to open the ZIP file to get to the PDF?
Please let me know and we’ll try to troubleshoot it.
Thanks for your interest in our comic,
Alex
I just joined a day or two ago…. i havent gotten the e-mail though…
TEres321,
Hmmm… I'm not seeing your email on our list. Did you fill out the form on THIS page?
Please try again using the form on this page and let me know what happens.
Thanks!
Alex
Hi Alex i just joined and i have someq after i joined i loged in and got a new passward but ever time i try to click on a name of a comic it does not work for some reason am i doing it wrong and how i am sopposed to see the comics.
Thanks
Ala
Hello Ala
Hmm. I'm not sure I 100% understand what the problem is. Here's what should happen:
1) You should fill out you name and email address on this page.
2) My web host will send you an email confirming that you did, in fact, fill out the form on this page yourself. (My web host and I *really* don't like spam.)
3) You click on the confirmation link on that email — this adds you to the Yaoi 911™ News mailing list — a very low-traffic list where I send out links to free comics (just the one for now, but hopefully more soon) and will let folks know when the book is ready.
4) After you click that link, an email is then sent to you welcoming you to list. In THAT second email is the link you click to download the .ZIP file with the comic.
5) Once you have downloaded the comic, you open the ZIP file to reveal the PDF inside (usually double-clicking the ZIP file is all you need to do, but if that doesn't work, you might need to download a program like WinZip — there are lots of free options out there for this.)
6) You read the PDF — again usually by double-clicking it — almost all modern computers can open PDF files by default — but if your computer does not automatically read PDFfiles, you might need to download Adobe Reader which can be found here
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.h…
7) Enjoy the sweet yaoi goodness of "A Shot in the Dark"!
At no point will you need to enter a password to get this comic.
Anyway, I see your email on the list so I am sending you the link to the free comic, just in case there was some confusion. Please let me know if you continue to encounter difficulties.
Thank you very much for your interest in our work!
Alex
I never got the link…I mean, I got the confirmation email, but the link didn't show me a free comic….
Kai,
Ah, looks like my wonderful and occasionally flaky web host is at it again. They've been so good lately, so I suppose it was time for them to fall off the wagon.
Anyhoo, I see your email on the list and have sent you the link directly. Just in case, please make sure you whitelist announce_list@yaoi911.com in any spam filters you have so you can get future comics we send out.
Thank you for your interest in our work!
Alex

Hey! lovely site… Yeah…. I registered on the subscribe list and didn't get my comics… I registered 2 days ago.
I registered my subsciption by: [EMAIL REMOVED TO PROTECT COMMENTER FROM SPAMBOTS]
@skibblesx –
Thanks for the kind words, skibblesx — much appreciated. I see your email on our list and have sent you the links directly to the email address subscribed on that list. Hopefully, you should have that now.
(And I also removed the email address you listed in your comment — I hate spam and want to protect you from evil spambots that look through websites to try to find email addresses.)
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the comics. We’re working on a couple more right now that will (hopefully!) be ready by the end of the year — so please make sure that announce_list at yaoi911.com is on your white list so you don’t miss out — these new comics are going to be a lot of fun.
Cheers,
Alex
Hi, Im a newbie here and I just wanna thank Mr. Alex for sending me the confirmation e-mail and the links to free comics. I have read the other comment where it doesnt work for them, maybe you just have to create a new acount or e-mail add. Just suggesting. Hey Mr. Alex thanks again.
@Julixterleonne –
Thank you so much for your kind words. Totally made me smile. You’re very welcome.
I really hope you enjoy our comics. We’re working on some really great new ones right now that I’ll be adding to the list as soon as they are done. More pages from “Artifice”, which I’ve already talked some about, and a new two volume high-school BL romance called “Tough”, the first chapters of which I’ll be making available to list subscribers for free. (I’ll be posting some of the character designs for “Tough” this weekend, so you can get a taste of what that comic will be like.)
And thank you for the advice to others about getting the Welcome email. I’m sure that will help. Right now I’m looking into shifting the list to a more professional (and alas more expensive) service that I hope will offer better support for this kind of thing. I really appreciate people’s interest in our work and I want to make the process of enjoying it as easy as possible.
Thanks again for your comment. I look forward to seeing you around here more. Cheers!
Alex
I got the link to download Artifice and Tough, but not A Shot in the Dark. Will I get that later, or did I miss it, or what?
@buddhistbabe8 –
I think there might be some confusion here.
Currently, the only downloads we are offering subscribers are for the full comic of "A Shot in the Dark" and pencils preview pages of "Artifice". We'll be offering the download link to Chapter One: "Tough" early next year (and then a link to Chapter Two a bit later).
But what we did just do was send out an email to our older subscribers making sure they still wanted to receive emails and download links from us. You see, we are very anti-spam here at Yaoi 911™ and. as part of that commitment, it's very important to us that only the people who want to get our emails get out email updates.
The last official Yaoi 911™ News and Downloads email we sent out was early this summer — so, some time ago — and let's face it, signing up for an email list on a Web site is hardly a memorable event. As "Tough" and "Artifice" are coming along quickly, we'll be sending out emails with those download links fairly soon. The last thing we would want is for someone to get one of our download link emails, not remember they signed up for them, ask "Who the !@#$% is this emailing me?!" and think we were spam. So we sent out an email to our older subscribers reminding them who we were — "Reintroducing Ourselves" was the subject line — and making sure they still wanted to get our download links. It had a nice big Unsubscribe link if people decided they didn't want to be on our list anymore.
That's the email I believe you just got.
If you want to make sure you get the new download links that we'll be sending out in the New Year, you don't have to do anything. Do nothing and you'll be left on our mailing list. Consider this just a friendly "check-in".
And if you want to re-download "A Shot in the Dark", you'll notice a link at the very bottom of that email (in the P.S.) to the Welcome Email (the one we sent out when you first joined the list). That Welcome Email has the download link to "A Shot in the Dark".
I'm sorry for the confusion. We just wanted to double-check that you still wanted to hear from us. We're delighted to have you on our list and we really hope you'll enjoy the comics we'll be making available to you in the near future.
Cheers,
Alex
Hi got your comic and really well done, and there is actually a story, yaoi isn’t big on narrative, great drawing skill as well totally envious, hope to see more coming our way.
@rorsdors –
Thank you so much for coming back here and letting me know you liked it! That's very much appreciated!
Keep an eye on the Tough series of High-School BL we're working on. Chapter One looks to be our next free comic which should be ready in the early part of the New Year. Hope you'll like that story too — and hope to see you here again soon.
i just got my confirmation email and i’m looking forward for the links!
thank you so much alex! and keep up the good work!
I loved this comic so much! I'd make me even happier if it had a sequel, mind if I do some fanart?
@Natskii-koi –
I'm delighted that you loved "A Shot in the Dark"! (Please tell all your friends.
) And yes, if there is enough interest, there will be a sequel (and perhaps a pre-quel as well). If enough people ask for it, I'd be happy to do it.
In terms of fanart, first off, thank you very much for asking permission to create fanart — that's very cool of you, shows real respect to a creator and is much appreciated.
I obviously wouldn't have any problems with art you created just for you and your friends and didn't publish either in print or on the Internet. And, personally, I would find fan takes on our work very flattering, no matter where they showed up.
The problem for a publisher like myself in this current legal climate is that if you don't vigorously defend your copyright on the non-harmful stuff — like what you want to do — it might weaken your ability to fight the actually harmful stuff (like someone creating ASITD stories or art and then selling them or saying we authorized them). In addition, there are a number of cases of creators getting sued by fans for 'stealing their ideas" when those ideas show up in canon sequels and the like (even if the creator got the idea to go there independently, it still happens) — which is unpleasant at best and potentially financially devastating for an independent creator like myself at worst.
I suppose at some point I'll have to come up with an official Yaoi 911 fan-fiction/fan-art policy, For now, let's just have it be (and please forgive the legal sounding language, I'm just trying to be clear):
1) I'm delighted that people would even care about our work enough to be inspired to create fan-art. I have nothing but love in my heart for anyone who would even call themselves a fan. Period.
2) With that said, unless we exchange an official contract with my signature in actual physical ink on it, under no circumstances do I authorize any derivative works for any of our comics. Anyone who creates derivative works of Yaoi 911 stories does not have any copyright in those stories/art — I do — and I reserve the right to shut them down and come after them with every legal recourse at my disposal. Under no circumstances would it be acceptable to receive money for creating materials based on our copyrighted works.
3) I also reserve the right NOT to come after those who create fan works, if for business or other reasons I choose not to — this does not mean in any way I am granting a license to create those works or giving up my copyright rights to our work in any way.
4) The Yaoi 911 official position is that if you are inspired by our works, then you should create stories and characters of your own — and we have a bunch of articles giving advice on doing just that. Creative people deserve to get full credit and compensation for their work — and that certainly includes our fans.
If you are inspired by us to tell stories or create art, creating brand new art and letting your audience know you found our work inspirational would be a great compliment.
So… that's the best I answer I can come up with on short notice. Sorry for all the heavy sounding language: I know your intentions are nothing but good here. I'll talk to some lawyers and find out exactly what I can allow fans to do without it hurting my ability to fight the bad stuff — honestly, I want to be able to say yes to this kind of thing, as I said, I personally like the idea — but for now, let's just say that I'm very flattered but the answer is that currently that I would prefer that you didn't.
At least until I can have a clear idea what I can say "yes" to without hurting my own rights.
Thank you again so much for your kind words. They really do make the effort in creating these comics worthwhile.
Cheers,
Alex
@Alex Woolfson First of all, I'll try to convince my friends to read it (they're more fans of the Naruto yaoi thing, I'm currently trying to open them up more things XDD) It'd be very interesting if there would be a sequel and I'm sure a lot of people would want to see it they just haven't brought it up!
Second: Wow! I never knew there was such a legal process just for fanart, I'm surprised and very impressed as well (especially since you knew many of the legalities as well!), it's understandable where you're coming from, since I got to anime conventions and I see what they sell (cheap rip off's of fanart for five dollars, that I know they didn't get the artist's permission from, unless it is the artist there selling such prints) so I get that you don't really want to delve into the defense and prosecution of such a matter. Oh, and don't mind about the legal language at all, I understood you clearly!
So I'll let you get to that when you have the time, for now I'll just happily sketch away in my notebook and keep it in there, get to me whenever this whole fiasco is settled -smiles- I know how people get when it comes to copyright, a person I watch on Deviantart (actual multiple people) have actually had their art posted in magazines and even DAYCARE SIGNS without their permission (The daycare one is a funny story actually, she drew a fanart of a sleeping Demyx from Kingdom Hearts II and then the daycare used her fanart without her permission, sheesh!)
Cheers back, Alex
-Natalie ^-^
@Natskii-koi –
Thank you so much for understanding. The truth is, I really do want to say "yes" to fan art, etc. I'll talk to some lawyers and see if there is a smart way I can do that.
(And yeah, I know that art theft is a big deal on DeviantArt, y-gallery, etc. To not even give credit to an artist for her work, not to mention using it without permission, well, boo to that!)
Right now we're finishing up "Artifice" and working our way through "Tough" , but I definitely want to revisit Ben and Ethan from "A Shot in the Dark" , so if people keep expressing interest, I'll put that in the hopper.
Thanks again, Natalie. Hope to see you here again.
Alex
